Lightning City: Tokyo

LIGHTNING CITY: TOKYO is a strategy-based roll-and-write game. Step by step, players expand Tokyo’s skyscrapers with new leisure facilities while striving to best meet the city’s needs. The player with the most points at the end wins.

A round consists of two phases. During the construction phase, each player draws two new rooms in a building based on the roll of the die. Depending on the color of the die, players choose between shops, karaoke bars, restaurants, and arcades to match the setting. The scoring and task cards chosen at the start are crucial for placement. Each room type is scored differently, and in addition, each player pursues a secret personal task to earn bonus points.

The construction phase is always followed by the thunderstorm phase. As time goes on, an increasingly severe storm moves in over Tokyo – and everyone faces an important decision: Keep building and gamble on higher scores? Or secure the building with a roof in time? If lightning strikes an unprotected building, the entire house number is removed from the scoring – and all plans are ruined.

LIGHTNING CITY: TOKYO exemplifies the new direction of NSV’s EXTRA format. The game mechanics offer the right amount of strategic challenge for anyone already familiar with roll-and-write games. Thanks to the adjustable difficulty level, every game remains exciting – and leaves you wanting more. The game is particularly well-suited for large groups. Up to 12 people can participate in a single game.
